Release 2 · version 0.2.0
What's new
Release 2 is about feeling safe and in control: a stronger stop, a keyboard that looks like yours, and a check before anything that can't be undone.
An emergency stop
Esc still stops a job, as before. Now there's a stronger stop for when a job seems stuck: press Pause/Break, or Ctrl+Alt+Esc on keyboards without a Pause key.
- It stops everything the job is doing.
- It lets go of any key or mouse button the job was holding down.
- It ends programs the job started that are still running.
It works even when the Routinewheel window is closed, and the rest of the time the Pause key works as usual.
A redrawn keyboard
- Three layouts. Pick Laptop, 60% or Desk keyboard on the Keyboard page.
- New 60% layout for small keyboards with no function row, arrows or number pad. The keys you reach with Fn are shown small on each key.
- Keys line up the way they do on a real keyboard, and the laptop layout now has a Down arrow you can give a job.
- Labels always fit, even in a small window, and it remembers the layout you picked.
Safer by default
- Terms of Use. The first time a job runs, Routinewheel asks you to agree to the Terms of Use. They're also in the download.
- A one-time “I understand”. A job that sends email by itself, or deletes files, checks with you once before it runs.
- Deleted files go to the Recycle Bin, so you can get them back.
Smoother everyday use
- Many small fixes from testing: recording, playback, windows that move between screens, saving in Excel and the help answers.
- Routinewheel talks to itself over its own private connection on your PC, so it doesn't clash with other programs.
- Plainer wording and everyday examples in the help and the ready-made jobs.
Routinewheel Pro is still included
Pro adds the two “let it run by itself” extras: running a job on a schedule, and After this, run… to chain jobs one after another. In the Microsoft Store it will be a one-time add-on. The early-access download from this site includes it, free.
Coming to Mac
A Mac version is in the works. There's no date yet.
